Northern Michigan University’s DeVos Art Museum will host an artist talk and reception featuring Liz Ward and Robert Ziebell at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 26. The artists will discuss their work currently on display. Their project titled “Across Time and Place” explores the artists’ approaches to understanding and interpreting place through multimedia artworks. Their works examine the nuance of place and delve into the richness of our world today and in past periods. Ziebell’s career spans 30 years. The Finlandia Art Gallery will present Foretelling the Future, Reflecting the Past, a textile exhibit by Laura Foster Nicholson. The exhibit will be held at The Finlandia Art Gallery, located in the Finnish American Heritage Center (FAHC), Hancock from September 26 to November 13, 2024. Houghton’s first-ever Upper Peninsula Accessibility Summit (UPAS) takes place this week at Michigan Technological University (MTU). The event brings together advocates, community leaders, and innovators to address accessibility challenges in the Keweenaw and more broadly, Northern Michigan, focusing on rural and recreational areas. UPAS is Thursday, Sept. 26 from 9am to 4pm and Friday, Sept. 27 from 9am to 2pm at the Rozsa Center for the Performing Arts at MTU in Houghton, MI.
