NEA Big Read Moment:  B. G. Bradley Memoir Writing Workshop 

 Thursday, October 17, 2024.  2:00 p.m.- 4:00 p.m.  Peter White Public Library Shiras Room.  Adults, Seniors, Teens.  In this pre-NEA Big Read event, award-winning author B. G. Copper Shores Outreach & Education is hosting free QPR Training on Thursday, October 17, 2024, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Portage Lake District Library. The event is free, will last about 90 minutes and is open to anyone in the community over the age of 16.   “Those who complete the training will be able to recognize warning signs of suicide, know how to offer hope, and know how to get help and potentially save a life,” Copper Shores Outreach & Education Prevention Coordinator Lisa Simpson said.   About QPR The training is called Question, Persuade, and Refer

Operation Winter Wear

Marquette -Operation Winter Wear, an outreach that provides new and like-new adult and child-sized coats to individuals in need, will be taking place October 16 – 18. Hosted by Silver Creek Church and Silver Creek Thrift, distribution is by appointment only on Wednesday, October 16 and Thursday, October 17. Walk-ins are welcome on Friday, October 18 between noon and 3:00PM. Appointments can be made by calling 906.249.1715 between 9:00AM and 5:00PM Monday – Thursday. Availability of items are not guaranteed. Silver Creek Church and Silver Creek Thrift are located at 219 Silver Creek Road in Harvey.

NMU Choral Groups Perform

  Northern Michigan University’s Arts Chorale and University Choir will perform their debut concert of the 2024-25 academic year at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 20, in Reynolds Recital Hall. Admission is free. Twenty-four undergraduate students—primarily music majors—comprise the NMU Arts Chorale. The University Choir is made up of about 40 singers representing various areas of study across campus.
