NMU Choral Groups Perform

  Northern Michigan University’s Arts Chorale and University Choir will perform their debut concert of the 2024-25 academic year at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 20, in Reynolds Recital Hall. Admission is free. Twenty-four undergraduate students—primarily music majors—comprise the NMU Arts Chorale. The University Choir is made up of about 40 singers representing various areas of study across campus. Selected works are connected by the theme of “fire and ice,” and include musical pieces based on hot and cold emotion, such as Katerina Gimon’s Elements, which is a multi-movement work that uses aleatory vocal techniques, overtone singing and other effects to represent earth,

Let’s Eat Community Meal is on October 20 at the Church of The Resurrection at 900 Quincy St. in Hancock (4 to 5:30 pm) and is provided by a team of its congregation. The menu on this Sunday includes Sloppy Joes, homemade potato salad, veggies, cookies/bars. Meals will be served indoors (take outs are available indoors).

Hancock – UPPCO to Host Energy Transition Open House

Upper Peninsula Power Company (UPPCO) will host two open house events to demonstrate how it plans to meet Michigan’s new clean energy standards. At these events, UPPCO will provide an update on the company’s current renewable generation projects and walk guests through its Integrated Resource Plan, or IRP. An IRP is a comprehensive plan which outlines an electric utility’s future electric generation resource strategy. An IRP seeks to answer the question of how an electric utility may provide reliable, cost-effective electric service to its customers over the next twenty (20) years while addressing various risks and uncertainties.
