Baraga County Holiday Decor Tours   HALLOWEEN outdoor displays must be engaged from 6pm until 9pm from October 21st through October 31st.   CHRISTMAS outdoor displays must be engaged from 6pm until 9pm from December 14th through January 1st.   Share your holiday spirit and passion for decorating by listing your site on the map!  Participate in Halloween, Christmas, or both!  There is no fee to participate and no fee for maps.  Sites listed on the maps will be entered into drawings for Baraga Bucks!

NMU Fall Semester Job Fair

  Northern Michigan University’s 57th annual fall semester job fair will take place from 1-4 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30, in the Northern Center ballrooms. The job fair offers students and alumni a one-stop opportunity to receive information about a wide array of career possibilities from participating employers in attendance who are recruiting for full-time and part-time jobs, as well as internships and seasonal employment. Admission to this event is free for Northern students and alumni. Attendees are encouraged to dress professionally and have their resumes on hand. “Frankenstein” at NMU

  For more than two centuries, Mary Shelley’s 1818 Gothic novel Frankenstein has remained a favorite within the horror fiction genre. Its tale of a scientist’s effort to bring back the dead by carving a new creature from their corpses—only to have his creation turn on him through a series of violent acts—has had an enduring influence on popular culture and spawned many creative adaptations. Northern Michigan University Theatre and Dance will premiere its version of the stage play, with opening night appropriately on Halloween. NMU Hosts Indigenous Perspectives Symposium

  Indigenous artists from across the region will gather at Northern Michigan University to share their perspectives on film, paintings, music, sculpture, literature and other arts.  The inaugural Indigenous Perspectives Symposium is free to the public and scheduled for Friday, Nov. 1, in the Northern Center. Women in Construction Event at NMU

  Northern Michigan University’s construction management program is hosting Women in Construction Day on Friday, Nov. 1 in the Jacobetti Complex. This hands-on career exploration event will be presented by dynamic women working in the industry and offer high school students an opportunity to discover options traditionally viewed as male-oriented. Students will complete projects such as welding, graphic technology, woodworking, trade opportunities, leadership, and/or construction management. There will be lunch, a prize drawing and trade show.  Meditate Marquette Presents: A Year of Mindful Living  

Saturday, November 2, 2024. 10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. Peter White Public Library, George Shiras III Room.  Four mindfulness meditation and yoga teachers invite you to engage in a year of mindful living.  Each month, one of the teachers will present a topic that addresses the different dimensions where we can practice mindfulness and presence.  The intent is for us to cultivate mindfulness, care, and well-being individually and in our love, business, and social relationships.  These are drop-in sessions, although committing to a full year is a way to build a consistent mindfulness practice.
