Three local gardeners will discuss their battles with invasive plants at 6 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 15, before the regular Keweenaw Wild Ones meeting on Zoom. In “Vinca Wars,” Tom Oliver, Danna Olsen and Marcia Goodrich will describe the techniques they use to rid their yards of creeping myrtle, also known as vinca or periwinkle. Copper Shores Outreach & Education is hosting free QPR Training on Thursday, October 17, 2024, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Portage Lake District Library. The event is free, will last about 90 minutes and is open to anyone in the community over the age of 16. “Those who complete the training will be able to recognize warning signs of suicide, know how to offer hope, and know how to get help and potentially save a life,” Copper Shores Outreach & Education Prevention Coordinator Lisa Simpson said.
