Houghton Counts Down to New Year’s Eve Chook Drop on Waterfront Pier HOUGHTON, Michigan (Dec. 12, 2024) — The City of Houghton and Visit Keweenaw are counting down to New Year’s Eve – and everyone’s invited! Bundle up in Houghton to ring in 2025 with a Yooper-style Chook Drop on the Portage Canal. Feel the winter magic early or late – families with kids or those who don’t want to stay up can enjoy an early drop at 6:30-7p with appropriate music. Later, Mr. Cesar and the Lucha Tones will play a set from 11:30p-midnight on the pier to lead the night crowd into 2025. Bring your friends

Wednesday 8 January 2025 is the monthly meeting of Alfred Erickson Post 186 of the American Legion Hancock.  Social hour 6 PM , 7pm meeting.  Our annual booya lunch will be served after meeting and roll call of the members. Members, and prospective veteran members are invited. This is a change from the usual meeting night of the first Wednesday of the month. The event: Jam Service Winter Carnival Saturday January 18th 2025 from 2pm-7pm across the road from the JAM SERVICE IN LAKE LINDEN in the old carnival grounds. Open to all the public and there is no charge for the event. There will be the following: – sledding hill – snowmobile rides – hot chocolate – hot dogs and other snacks – bonfire – hangout and have a good time Vendors of any sort are welcome. Jam Service  just asks that they contact them just to ensure they have enough room opened up and it is free for them (vendors)  as well.
