DOWNTOWN DAY September 28, All Day A special day celebrated across Michigan on the fourth Saturday of September to honor and appreciate the unique charm and vitality of our Downtown areas. Take a leisurely stroll along the sidewalks, admire the public art, and soak up the cultural and recreational aspects of your local downtown. This initiative, proposed by the Michigan Downtown Association (MDA), is aimed at promoting local businesses and community engagement.

Marquette County Habitat for Humanity is hosting a square dance at Willow Farm, in Harvey, on Saturday, September 28th, from 5:30 PM to 9:00 PM. This high-spirited event will feature live music by the Feltliners, offer a cash bar, fare from the Frenchtastic food truck, auction items. There are only 150 tickets available, with proceeds benefitting Marquette County Habitat for Humanity. Iron Ore Heritage Recreation Authority Monthly Board Meeting

Marquette, MI – The Iron Ore Heritage Recreation Authority is rescheduling its monthly board meeting to Monday, September 30 starting at 4:30pm at the Ishpeming Multi-purpose Senior Center, 121 Greenwood Street, Ishpeming. The IOHRA is the caretaker of the Iron Ore Heritage Trail, a 47-mile, year-round, multi-use, interpretive trail that crosses the Marquette Iron Range in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.  Referred to as an outdoor linear museum where you exercise your body and mind. NMU Jazz Ensembles to Perform

  Northern Michigan University’s jazz ensembles will return to the Reynolds Recital Hall at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 30 for their first concert of the fall 2024 season. NMU Campus Nursery Grand Opening

Northern Michigan University will host a grand opening garden party for its new Campus Nursery as part of the 125th anniversary celebration at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1. Participants are invited to tour the garden and learn about native plant species and efforts to increase biodiversity on our campus. There will also be an opportunity to get hands dirty by helping with fall tree and bush planting. Light refreshments will be served. Alger County Communities That Care Pizza with a Purpose Fundraiser

MUNISING—Alger County Communities That Care (AC3), in partnership with Pictured Rocks Pizza, will host the 8th annual Pizza with a Purpose fundraiser with proceeds used to support suicide prevention in Alger County. The event will be held Thursday, Oct. 3, from noon until 8 p.m. and Friday, Oct. 4 from noon until 7 p.m. at the popular Munising pizzeria famous for its gourmet wood-fired pizza. “Cabaret” at NMU

Northern Michigan University will present the daring and provocative musical Cabaret Oct. 3-5 and 10-12. The play is set in a Berlin nightclub as the 1920s draw to a close. It explores the tumultuous life of the city’s natives and expatriates as Germany slowly yields to the emerging Third Reich. “It’s a really interesting musical—more dark and gritty than happy-go-lucky—but very fun to put on,” said director and choreographer Kristen Beth Ludwig. “It was a time of economic depression and the rise of fascism. It’s a political musical, in a sense, but not about an election. Part of why we put it
