Domestic Violence & Local Businesses –Lunch & Learn Event
Baraga County Shelter Home will be the guest presenter at an upcoming Lunch & Learn event on Wednesday, January 15th, hosted by the Baraga County Chamber. Celeste Hendrickson, Executive Director of the Shelter Home, will be sharing information about how local businesses are affected by domestic violence in some surprising ways. “Unfortunately, society considers the topic of domestic violence as a ‘family matter’ when in fact it is a societal issue that affects local businesses every day in major ways” shares Hendrickson. She explains that 1 in 3 Michigan families are impacted, with the nation
suffering a $13 billion loss annually because of domestic violence. Hendrickson will be sharing information about how this loss is seen in local businesses, as well as what owners and employees can do to lessen the economic impact and better support employee health.
Baraga County Shelter Home provides a wide range of free, confidential advocacy services to survivors including emergency shelter, legal and housing advocacy, and a 24/7 crisis line. If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic abuse, call the crisis line at (906) 524-7078.
