Copper Shores Outreach & Education is hosting a free two-day Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) on Monday, October 28 and Tuesday, October 29 at the MUB Alumni Lounge on Michigan Tech’s campus. This two day workshop runs from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day, teaching people the skills the help prevent suicide, and how to intervene to help keep someone safe from suicide.
Those who partake in ASIST include both trained professionals and members of the general public. People do not need to have any training in suicide prevention or intervention prior to attending ASIST. With ASIST, people can provide guidance and suicide first-aid to a person with thoughts of suicide in ways that meet their individual safety needs, as well as identify the key elements of an effective suicide safety plan and the actions required to implement it.
This training is open to the public, and provided at no cost. To register for the training contact Kristine Martens at 1 (906) 523-5920, extension 2060, or email kmartens@coppershores.org. The deadline to register is October 24.
