Dollar Bay – Foraging Adventure for Beginners Workshop

August 24 @ 2:00 pm4:00 pm

The Keweenaw Land Trust (KLT) is hosting a Foraging Adventure for Beginners workshop on August 24th from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm at the Steve Farm Nature Area at Lovell Creek in Dollar Bay.

Foraging is the practice of searching for wild edible food resources. During this workshop experience you’ll find, identify, learn about and sketch plants that can commonly be foraged around the Keweenaw area.

This workshop is suitable for ages 10 and up. Space is limited to 25 participants. The workshop fee is $100 per person. A portion of the proceeds will to to the Keweenaw Land Trust. Pre-registration is required. To learn how to register, please visit the KLT website.

Participants will:

  • Learn about foraging ethics and safety
  • Learn how to accurately recognize 10 (or more) of the most common plants to forage around the Keweenaw and Upper Peninsula and their uses
  • Use the art of sketching to get to know the plants they forage
  • All participants will receive Foraging Adventures – Journal and Guide, a booklet created by your guide, Lisa Reitz. The book includes information and details from the class to use on your own future foraging adventures. This book is also for your sketches – basic sketching materials and instructions will be provided for the event. Absolutely no artistic experience or abilities are needed to participate in this workshop experience.

The tour will end with a group discussion and guests can take home a dried herbal tea gift. Questions about this workshop can be directed to B Lauer, b@keweenawlandtrust.org.
