The Marquette Regional History Center Presents: Talking Treaties
When: Wednesday, November 18, 2026 at 6:30 p.m.
Where: Marquette Regional History Center
In conjunction with the celebration of America’s Independence, we focus on the Native American treaties in our region. We are honored to host Jason Schlender, the Executive Administrator at the Great Lakes Indian Fish & Wildlife Commission (GLIFWC) for this presentation. Join us for Schlender’s talk, A Timeline of Anishinaabe Treaty Rights in the Northern Great Lakes. GLIFWC was formed in 1984 to assist its eleven member bands in the implementation and protection of their off-reservation treaty rights. One of the most formidable obstacles to achieving these goals has been public misunderstanding of treaties, treaty rights, and tribal sovereignty. We will recognize four major regional treaties, see how they function today, and learn how they are part of our American story. $5 suggested donation.
Program takes place at the Marquette Regional History Center 145 W Spring St Marquette, MI 49855 marquettehistory.org 906-226-3571
